About Program
Tell IT LIKE A TOPGUN
Our goal is to increase your presentation skills to the level of a TOPGUN instructor. Therefore, you can expect the following business-related outcomes:
- Increased acceptance of your ideas, products, and/or services.
- More effective design and delivery techniques.
- Increased confidence and stage presence.
This course is designed for those willing to invest the time, energy, and cost necessary to produce high-consequence presentations.
- Symposium presenters wanting to deliver more memorable talks.
- Engineers wanting to gain more design approvals.
- Program managers wanting to produce more impactful oral reports.
- Researchers wanting to earn more project funds.
- Sales professionals wanting to close larger deals.
There is a scene in the original (1986) Top Gun movie where Charlie Blackwood (played by Kelly McGillis) is giving her first lecture to Maverick and his TOPGUN classmates. The students’ body language and facial expressions reveal their skepticism, arrogance, and disrespect towards the non-aviator (gender irrelevant) presenter standing in front of them. Charlie and her fellow TOPGUN instructors have a goal to compel their audience to follow their advice or face a very real risk of death in combat. In business, similarly high consequence presentations can affect the very survival of your company and/or your career potential. This program is designed to help participants learn how to produce equivalently compelling presentations in front of a room full of Mavericks to enhance both their company and career success.
Like the TOPGUN syllabus, where every hour of flying is surrounded by 4-5 hours’ worth of classroom instruction, pre-flight planning, and post-flight debriefing, this program is similarly divided into academics, presentation planning, and group discussion spread out over twenty-four (24) classroom (or webinar) hours. The culminating exercise uses TOPGUN’s signature instructor rehearsal process to help you learn how to prepare more effectively, and to give and receive feedback more powerfully. Employing the latest adult learning strategies ensures your newly developed skills remain “sticky” long after graduation.
TOPGUN is one of five graduate-level tactics schools in the U.S. Navy, all of which share the same instructional methodology and Jeff is the only officer that served a total of nine years at multiple tactics schools. Armed with those superior instructor skills, he has achieved an 82% win rate on competitive awards worth over $600M and taught 6,100+ students in various subjects with an average satisfaction rate of 4.6 out of 5.0. With an undergraduate degree in engineering, a graduate degree in adult education, additional instructor positions at both military and civilian institutions, and worldwide experience presenting to audiences from 1 – 1000, he can relate to the broadest range of participant backgrounds to ensure each participant achieves their individual learning objectives and career outcomes.
Expected Outcomes
Boost presentation skills to TOPGUN instructor level
- Increased persuasiveness and acceptance of your ideas, products, or services.
- More effective, less distracting design and delivery techniques.
- More confidence, less stage fright.
Who is this for?
If you’re a casual presenter where consequences don’t matter, this is not for you. This course is designed for:
- Sales professionals to close larger deals.
- Symposia presenters to deliver more memorable talks.
- Engineers to gain more design approvals.
- Program managers to produce more impactful oral reports.
- Researchers to earn more project funds.

Best course I have taken during my time with the USG. I know it would've been preferred to do this in person, but I really liked it online.
